The photographs that formed the bulk of Brodie Whitelaws career are advertising and commercial photography. During his career he photographed Milne Studio and Pringle and Booth Studio. He created advertising photographs for items such as: Canada Dry; Gordon's Gin; Sinx; juicer; CILUX Enamel; Quaker Puffed Rice; Heinz; CFRB; Hinds Cream; Furniture; luggage; Copland's Ginger Beer; Canada Bud Beer; Weldrest stockings; Toronto Daily Star; Dalzo; silverware; Lux; Elizabeth Arden Blue Moon; Life Savers; Coty; ads for lingerie; hats; hosiery; wedding rings; fashion; Dack's shoes; ; Underwood & Underwood; various other unidentified.

Several of his photographs seem to have also been exhibited/intended for the Toronto Camera Club. Including: Tobacco Enjoyment, which won 1st prize 1932; Xmas designs; Panama hats; Triple Enjoyment; Metal testing machine; Beech-Nut gum; LifeSavers candy; Underwood; Maitland PK Yarn.

Colour work includes: Catalogue work and various ads, including: catalouge work for the Hudson's Bay Comapny; Sears; Peace Bridge for SunLife Insurance; Borden's Truck; Eaton Furniture Truck; Burroughes Furniture; Fashion; Heinz; White Lable Ale; Lizanne's; includes images of mother and daughter listening to records; agriculture; graduation; woman with tea service; Christmas design; appliances; food and candy.
