Fonds consists of 11 films, one print, five reproductions, two printing blocks, 34 brass badges and 28 photographs held by the Sunshine-Waterloo Company at the time of their bankruptcy in 1990. The film Swing frolic was shown to employees during the Second World War to boost morale and is an example of this genre of film, projected in Canadian factories at the time. The other films document Sunshine-Waterloo harvester agricultural sales, delivery, assembly, testing and demonstrations in Western Canada, Second World War plant war bond rallies and company activities and the Australian parent company. The print, a stand-up sign, commemorates the receipt of a design award for steel office equipment in 1953 from N.I.D.C. Canada. The reproductions, posters, were likely used for advertising or public relations purposes, possibly as commemorative souvenir give-aways coinciding with a company anniversary. The printing blocks date ca. 1930-1950 and were likely used for newspaper advertisements, handbills or pamphlets in Waterloo, Ontario. The badges appear to be security identification badges likely worn by employees at the Waterloo facility during war-time production at the plant during the Second World War. The photographs include (1) four aerial views of the SUNAR factory at Waterloo, Ontario, taken sometime in the period 1968-1975. One of these views is found as a colour print, two colour slides evidently derived from the colour print, and a black and white print. (2) A panoramic view of the factory under construction, taken 4 October 1930, with the workmen gathered in front of the camera. Photographer is Denton Pano-Photo. (3) An album of 23 black and white photographs, taken during WW II (probably in 1942-1943), showing company employees, company buses, and company security; workers at various machines; workers in classrooms. Many of the workers are women. None of the company's products is completely shown in the images.

Sunshine-Waterloo (Firm) : Incorporated in 1929 by H.V. McKay PTY Ltd. of Sunshine, Australia, Sunshine-Waterloo built a 285,000 square foot plant in Waterloo, Ontario in 1930. The company was involved in manufacturing related primarily to farming before the war. The company diversified during the 1930s adding the production of baby carriages, bicycles, tricycles and roller skates. In 1939 the manufacturing converted to war-related production army trucks, smoke bombs, shells, mines, grenades and gun mounts. Following the war, market changes led to the company adding office products, stoves, shelving and lockers. Massey-Ferguson Industries Limited purchased H.V. McKay PYT Limited in 1955, acquiring the Sunshine-Waterloo Company in the process.

This association allowed the company to expand in the office equipment market leading to a switch in focus in 1956 almost entirely to the manufacture of steel office furniture. The name was changed to Sunshine Office Equipment Limited in 1961. The company added wood office furniture to its product line and in 1964, Massey-Ferguson purchased Art Woodwork Limited in Montreal. The combined name was changed to Sunar Industries Limited in 1968. Sunar was bought out by the E.F. Hauserman Company in the early 1980s. Hauserman manufactured office walls in the U.S., and together they became SunarHauserman Ltd. The U.S. company struggled financially, and in 1990, the Canadian operation filed for bankruptcy and was eventually dissolved. Letter from donor Ernie Riediger, June 26, 1999. Custodial history:

This material was acquired by employee Ernie Riediger after the company went bankrupt in 1990, through an agreement with the trustees. Riediger forwarded the material to the National Archives in 1990 and 2000.
