Canada. Dept. of Communications. National Telecommunications Branch : The National Telecommunications Branch (DGTN) was established with the department in 1969 as part of the Operations Sector (later the Policy Sector). It was responsible for formulating and recommending forward-looking national telecommunications policies designed to serve public and private needs by strengthening and extending Canada's telecommunications systems.

The structure of the branch remained constant, typically consisting of four directorates in the following areas: network development, regulatory and financial policy development, industry structure and services, and, beginning in 1973, spectrum and radio system policy development. It was succeeded by the Telecommunications Policy Branch in the early 1980s, though its structure and responsibilities remained virtually unchanged.

Canada. Dept. of Communications. Telecommunications Policy Branch : The Telecommunications Policy Branch (DGTP) emerged in the early 1980s, continuing the work of the former National Telecommunications Branch under the Policy Sector. Following a reorganization of the department's responsibilities in 1985, the branch became part of the new Telecommunications and Technology Sector.
