Canadian Overseas Telecommunication Corporation : The Canadian Overseas Telecommunication Corporation, predecessor of Teleglobe Canada, was established by Act of Parliament in 1949 as a Crown Corporation charged with acquiring, operating and maintaining overseas telecommunications services for Canada. These services include telephone, telegraph, telex, specialized data communications, and radio and television program transmission. In 1987, under the Teleglobe Canada Reorganization and Divestiture Act, Teleglobe was privatized.
