Accession consists of administrative files, booklets, poster and films dated 1899 to 1984 created by or for the Canadian Grain Commission and maintained by the Winnipeg Headquarters office pertaining but not limited to: verbatim reports of the Board of Grain Commissioners, minutes of the Canadian Grain Commission, opinions of counsel, orders of the Board, minutes of the Board of Grain Commissioners; various booklets such as "Board of Grain Commissioners", "Grain Sampling and Inspection", "Field to Market"; a poster entitled "It's A Crime-Mix-Off Treated Seed"; 16mm films such as "Grain Sector Conversion", "Canadian Grain Commission", "Grain Handling in Canada" and "Wheat".
Boxes 1-10 and large steel-post ledgers 12-30 (occupying 12 box spaces) appear to be administrative records of an operational nature (committee minutes, verbatim reports) originally covered by GRDS 86/001 at time of transfer. Also included are various booklets pertaining to the operations of the Canadian Grain Commission and/or the Board of Grain Commissioners.
Film portion of accession consists of a number of 16 mm reels: 4reels pertaining to "Grain Sector Conversion" credited to the National Film Board (no date given); one reel entitled "Frazer - McNair Interview - Role of Board of Grain Commissioners" credited to Manitoba Department of Agriculture (no date given); one reel to the "Canadian Grain Commission" credited to Agriculture Canada (no date given); one reel to "Grain Handling in Canada" credited to the National Film Board (1955); and one reel to "Wheat" credited to the National Film Board (1967). There is no indication whether the above films are in black and white or colour.
Accession includes one poster entitled, "It's A Crime to Mix-Off Treated Seed and Deliver to an Elevator." The poster was produced by Canada Department of Agriculture - Board of Grain Commissioners, poster no. 4, issued under the authority of the Hon. J.J. Greene, Minister of Agriculture, no date given. The poster is a cartoon of a criminal behind bars, shackled to a sack of treated seed (poison). Through the prison bars can be seen a grain elevator.

Physical description note:

Graphic (art): The poster is 22" x 17" (55 mm x 42 mm), green monotone on yellow poster stock.

Note on the state of conservation:

Moving images (film): Films are stored in original metal canisters; external visual inspection of film seems to indicate that they are in relatively good condition - there are no obvious signs of warping, damage. As the MRFRC has no means to view the films, it is not possible to say whether the film flanges are stretched or the film is scratched., Graphic (art): Several tears on bottom, various small holes and brown stains indicating water damage (no mould).

Custodial history:

SInce 2010, archival records are held at the Regional Service Center in Winnipeg.
