Fonds consists of a portrait drawing of the Right Honourable Pierre Elliott Trudeau that was one of a series produced as preliminary studies for his official portrait commissioned from the artist by the Government of Canada. Fonds also includes an acrylic portrait of Maxwell Bennett Bates (1906-1980), one of the pioneer Expressionist artists to work in Canada. The artist, Myfanwy Pavelic was a close friend of Bates and she painted several portraits of him including this one during his final years.

Custodial history:

The drawing was acquired from the artist, after contact with Franklin Silverstone Fine Arts Inc. of Montreal, Quebec, the agent of the sale of her other drawings from the series. The painting was acquired at auction from Maynard's Ltd. of Vancouver, B.C.
