CTV commentator Bruce Philips narrates this television tribute to former Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson, who died at the age of seventy-five the previous day. Career highlights and accomplishments are revealed by film clips depicting: Pearson accepting the Nobel Peace Prize; meeting with United States Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson; talks with British Prime Minister Edward Heath; the provincial Constitutional Conference; the 1968 Liberal convention; and Pearson lighting the Centennial flame on Parliament Hill. Taped footage of Pearson's appearance on Canada A.M. with interviewers Carol Taylor and Percy Saltsman and segments of Charles Templeton interviewing Mr. Pearson in 1968 where he discusses: recollections of past Canadian leaders; the diplomatic life; and his role in the global peacekeeping effort. Additional clips of Charles de Gaulle's visit to Québec and Pearson's speeches concerning: the Vietnamese War; the British Commonwealth; Canada's flag; and the National Pension Plan. Tributes are heard from: Prime Minister Trudeau; Conservative leader Robert Stanfield; former Prime Minister John Diefenbaker; and Governor General Roland Michener. <60mn>
