Series consists of correspondence, memoranda chiefly relating to John Clarkson's dispute with the Sierra Leone Company ending in his suppression as Governor. Correspondence with various members of the colony. Included is a memorandum by Clarkson in the form of a letter to [William Wilberforce] on the foundation of the colony, written in reply to Robert Thorpe's attack, in 1815, on the past conduct of the colony. Journal of Isaac Du Bois, 1792-1793, on the state of the colony of Sierra Leone addressed to John Clarkson; correspondence to Thomas Clarkson, 1793; petition from colonists to the chairman and directors of the Sierra Leone Company regarding the hardships of the colonists, 1793; memorial of British merchants on the River Gambia, ca. 1820 to the Sierra Leone Company citing certain grievances; memoir and extract of letter from the late John Clarkson in an issue of The Herald of Peace, 1828.

Correspondents include William Wilberforce, Isaac Du Bois, Thomas M. Winterbottom, Henry Thornton, Isaac Anderson, Stephen Cottrell, etc. This material is located on microfilm reel A-1981. Clarkson Vol III, Add. MSS 41263
