This sub-series consists of briefings, background material, agendas and schedules, speeches, memos, correspondence and some print/near-print and clippings. These records comment on McLean's responsibility areas. As Secretary of State, he was involved in ceremonial activity, such as active participation in the Royal Visit of 1984. His trips across Canada and abroad, especially to the United States, reflect discussions with his counterparts abroad , which influenced policy formulation on women's issues, and Human Rights, immigration and foreign aid policy.
