Item is a negative microfilm of a pamphlet whose purpose is to defend John Parr, Governor of Nova Scotia, 1782-1791, in the latter's rejection of a petition of fifty-five associated Loyalists who were seeking grants of 5,000 acres of land each. The pamphlet was printed in 1784 in London for John Stockdale. It is located on microfilm reel A-1991.

Interspersed with the author's statements in defence of Parr are printed copies of documents and correspondence on the episode including copies of correspondence, starting in 1782, with Sir Guy Carleton, John Parr, Philip J. Livingston, Nathaniel Chandler, Abijah Willard, etc. The documents to and from Sir Guy Carleton appear to support the fifty-five associates in their bid for large tracts of land. However, in justifying the decision of Governor Parr to refuse their petitions, the author states on page 31: "Governor Parr has not injured the Fifty-five by withholding a grant of 5000 acres, ... because 1000 acres were offered to each of them that actually resided in the province, ..."

The full title of this pamphlet is: 'Vindication of Governor Parr and his Council Against the Complaints of certain Persons, Who fought to engross 275,000 Acres of Land in Nova Scotia, at the Expense of Government, and to the great Prejudice of the Province and Loyalists in general, founded on various authentic letters and papers, herein inserted'.
