Canada. Canadian Engineers. Field Company, 2nd : The 2nd Field Company, Canadian Engineers was organized at Valcartier in August 1914 under the command of Major W.B. Lindsay. The majority of personnel in the company were recruited in Toronto and it was noted that "Every man taken on at Toronto was skilled in a trade or profession, which included approximately fifty civil engineers".
The company embarked at Quebec on 3 October 1914 aboard ZEELAND, disembarking in England on 15 October. Its strength was 8 officers and 233 other ranks. The company arrived in France on 12 February 1915, becoming part of the 1st Canadian Divisional Engineers. The 2nd Field Company was absorbed by the 2nd Battalion, Canadian Engineers in May 1918. In collaboration with the 1st Field Company, the 2nd Field Company published "Sham Hughes" (one issue) while aboard the ZEELAND. It later published "Peevie" (one issue) while at Larkhill.
