Canada. Canadian Army. Battalion, 60th : The 60th Canadian Infantry Battalion was organized in May 1915 under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel F.A. Gascoigne, under authorization published in General Order 103a of 15 August 1915. The battalion mobilized in Montreal and also recruited in Montreal.

An initial draft of 250 soldiers was sent to the 23rd Canadian Reserve Battalion in August 1915. The battalion itself embarked at Montreal on 6 November 1915 aboard SCANDINAVIAN, disembarking in England on 16 November 1915. Its strength was 40 officers and 1024 other ranks. The battalion arrived in France on 20 February 1916. It was later reinforced by the 23rd Canadian Reserve Battalion. The battalion was withdrawn in April 1917 and replaced by the 116th Battalion. Personnel were also absorbed into the 87th Battalion and 5th Canadian Mounted Rifles. The battalion was disbanded by P.C. 1717 of 27 July 1918.

The battalion published "The Silent Sixtieth" at Bramshott in December 1915 and "The Silent Sixtieth - Somewhere in Flanders - Birthday Number" in June 1916. The battalion supported a bugle band.

The 60th Canadian Infantry Battalion was perpetuated by The Victoria Rifles of Canada.
