Series is comprised of Scotia Synfuels Project administration records. In 1983, a new records keeping arrangement created the Numbered Documents Sub-series above, and three administrative sub-series - correspondence, finances, and subject. These sub-series were neither entirely separate from each other, nor from the 1981 General Administration sub-series, nor from the subsequent Scotia Synfuels Limited records. Files were brought forward as needed, and filed in later sub-series; the numbered documents sub-series was abandoned, making the three 1983 sub-series here more important; within the three 1983 sub-series, distinctions between correspondence, finances, and subject were sometimes unclear, and the internal structure of the three sub-series often uncertain.

This series consists of seven sub-series. The earliest - the 1981 Administration - complements the first binder sub-series. The next three sub-series - the 1983 sub-series - parallel the second binder sub-series, and continue after the binders were discontinued in April 1984. Thus those three sub-series become the Project's second administrative system. They, and to a lesser extent the one 1981 sub-series, consist of general correspondence, memoranda, reports, meeting minutes, agendas, itineraries, invoices, financial statements, travel arrangements and expenses, briefing material, press releases, receipts, invitations, self-memoranda, and personal notes. The fifth sub-series is a gathering of scattered numbered files that apparently were created and used by Eric Maki, the Project Manager. The sixth sub-series, is a continuation of the earlier records that were processed in Finance sub-series. This sub-series contains the bulk of the financial records for Scotia Synfuels Limited. Lastly, the Point Tupper material includes documents that relate to all of the different companies that were active at one time or another at the Point Tupper facility.
