Sub-series documents the relationship between the Project (later SSL) and Hydrocarbon Research Inc. (HRI), the company which owned the oil/coal co-processing technology. AGAL was retained by HRI to advise them on the marketing of this technology in Canada. These records consist of general correspondence, memoranda, briefing or reference files, contact and monthly status reports, technical reports and publications, billings and invoices, confidentiality agreements, self-memoranda, and notes. Almost all these records date from 1980 - 1983, or 1992 - 1995. These papers also record the efforts of Gillespie and of Robert H. Shannon of HRI to market HRI technology in the form of mini-plants for upgrading heavy oil. That work is documented in prospective files on oil companies that might use HRI expertise.
