Series consists of records created and maintained by two assistants, James Deacey and Susan Munroe. Additional James Deacey correspondence is in volume 212. The records include memoranda, notes, correspondence, speeches, itineraries, schedules, press releases, clippings, and briefing books. The series is arranged alphabetically by title, and relates to energy, science, technology, the Federal-Provincial Conference of Energy Ministers, 1977 (vol. 334, files 8-14), the Nuclear Control and Administration Act (vol. 337, files 2-5), the Atomic Energy Control Board, and monitoring of the petroleum industry. Other records document the preparation of responses to Opposition questions by exempt staff (vols. 335 - 336). A block of memoranda from Denis Hudon, Secretary, Ministry of State for Science and Technology (vol. 336, files 13-16) provided information, briefings, analyses, and interpretation on a range of subjects such as the Centres of Excellence for research and development, the fighter aircraft replacement programme, the promotion and funding of research and development in industry, Foreign Investment Review Agency cases, and federal tax incentives for industrial research and development. Similar memoranda are in volume 52, files 8 - 15.
