Series is Gillespie's records as Parliamentary Secretary to the President of the Treasury Board (CM Drury), from 1 October 1970 until 11 August 1971. The records are correspondence, reports, memoranda, agendas, press releases, newspaper clippings, bulletins, personal notes, and self-memoranda. While this series contains records on the organization and activities of the Treasury Board, on government reorganization, and on several economic topics, the majority of the records were created while Gillespie was studying the role in science of the federal government, especially of the National Research Council of Canada (NRC). One of the themes studied was the establishment of a new Ministry of Science, which had been outlined in the 1970 Speech from the Throne; other aspects studied included the policy and advisory role of the National Research Council and of the Science Council of Canada. Another theme of this research was the relationships among science, business, and wealth creation.
