Jean Roberts and Marigold Charlesworth took over the Red Barn Theatre in 1959, initially as a summer repertory company based at the Red Barn in Jackson's Point, Ontario. In 1962, the company expanded to include a winter season at the Toronto Central Library Theatre, which lasted until 1965 when Roberts and Charlesworth took over the Canadian Players. The series consists of a very complete record of the early years of the Red Barn Theatre company, with a small amount of material relating to its later management under E. Schwartz and Brian Sewell.

The series consists of two sub-series of textual records: Correspondence and administration; and Production and publicity material. The series includes publicity posters and set designs for Red Barn Theatre productions. Also included are plans of the University of Waterloo Theatre (apparently used as reference material) and the Toronto Central Library Theatre.
