Accession consists of correspondence, research papers and other documentation, 1946-1976, relating to Henry Seywerd's work with the International Refugee Organization, Boy Scouts of Canada and the Canadian Citizenship Council. It also holds photographs pertaining to different aspects of Canadian life [1951], and to the Aurich (Germany) Camp Project, showing refugees in the camp as well as on their way to Canada, 1951. The documentation was received from Henry Seywerd's son, Henry Seywerd, of Ottawa, in 2000.
The photographs cover the displaced persons camp at Aurich, Germany, ca. 1950, showing some of the facilities, staff, and training given at the camp, as well as some of the displaced persons. Other photographs cover the departure of the emigrants to Canada via ship, and shipboard activities. A group of photographs, extensively captioned in both English and German, show geography, people, and economic activities of Canada and evidently portray the country as the Canadian Immigration Council wished it to be seen. A number of the photographs by the National Film Board were taken during WW II, or shortly thereafter.

Note on the state of conservation:

Graphic (photo): The photographs are generally in good chemical condition, although some dealing with the Aurich Camp have stains or spotting; most of the prints are in only fair mechanical conditiion, being generally curled or warped.
