Fonds consists of oral history interviews by labour historian, Wayne Roberts, about the history and development of the trade union movement in Canada. Among the interviewees are Nels Thibeault, Irving Layton, Ruth Weir, Ross Dowson, Grace Hartman, George and Barbara Cadbury, Ken Bryden, Donald MacDonald, Elroy Robinson, Bill Smith, Murray Cotterill and many others.

Roberts, Wayne, 1944-2021 : Wayne Roberts was born in 1944. He obtained his BA at York University, his MA in American History at the University of California and his Ph.D. in History at the University of Toronto in 1978. During his career as a labour historian, Roberts lectured on labour history, women's history in industry, Canadian-American relations and reform movements at several institutions including Berkeley, McMaster University and at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. He also authored and edited many articles, reviews and publications such as Baptism of a union : the Stelco strike of 1946, an article entitled Toronto metal workers and the second industrial revolution for Labour/Le Travailler and the Hamilton and a book entitled The Hamilton working class, 1820-1977, a bilbliography.

Numerous articles written by Wayne Roberts have appeared in major newspapers and professional journals. Roberts was also a valued public speaker and guest lecturer at many conferences, historical organizations and university departments. As a broadcaster and commentator, he was a contributor to radio programming for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and CHCH-TV in Hamilton.

Wayne Roberts was the recipent of several awards in including the Woodrow Wilson Fellowship for 1967-68, the Canadian Council Doctorate Fellowship, 1969-74, and the McMaster Student Award of Teaching Distinction. He passed away on January 20, 2021. NA Collection File - Document entitled "Resume."
