Fonds consists of oral history interviews of performers, producers, designers, writers, hosts and other people involved in the productions of children's television programming in Canada. Among those interviewed are Rodney Coneybeare, Alex Trebek, Noreen Young, Norman Campbell, Cliff Braggins, Sandy Stewart, Bill Davidson and many others. These interviews were conducted during the research phase for Rainsberry's book entitled, A history of children's television in English Canada, 1952-1983.

Biography/Administrative history:

Rainsberry, F. B : Frederick Beatty Rainsberry was born in 1915 and obtained his BA and MA from the University of Toronto in 1940 and 1947 respectively. In 1954 he earned a Ph.D. from Michigan State University in philosophy and English. During his early career he taught English at a variety of highschools and colleges in Canada and the United States. While persuing his Ph.D. studies, he was an instructor in Humanities at Michigan State. Persuing his interests in television and education, he was Supervisor for School and Youth Programming for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation from 1960 to 1966.

Fred Rainsberry was Professor Emeritus in the Department of Curriculum at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education from 1968 to 1980 with a special interest in communication theory and curriculum development. During those years Rainsberry was responsible for a number of publications including Images of Curriculum and Television and the Family As Agents for Socialization (Royal Commission on Violence in the Communications Industry). After retiring from OISE he undertook a project on educational broadcasting entitled History of School Television in Canada and subsequently authored a book entitled A history of children's television in English Canada, 1952-1986, based on a number of oral history interviews of actors, directors and producers. Fred Rainsberry died in 1996. NA Collection File (AV Archives).
