Oral history interview of lawyer Philip Foran of Hull, Quebec, who talks about the lives of his grandfather, his parents and his own youth growing up in Ottawa. Foran's grandfather who was born in Ireland immigrated to Aylmer, Quebec, and worked as a lumberman after acquiring timber rights in Western Quebec. Foran describes the big stone house, "Greenpark", that his grandfather built on the Aylmer Road - the house that Philip Foran lived in until recently. Discussion follows of Thomas Patrick Foran, Philip's father, who was the first graduate of Ottawa University, a law graduate from McGill University, and who later returned to Hull to practice. Foran relates that his parents fled to Ottawa to escape the fire of 1900 which destroyed most of Hull including their home. As a result, the family lived in Ottawa and later in the Russel Hotel. He described the grand opulence of the hotel, his school days at Lisgar High School in the 1920s and the changes in Hull over the years.
