Sub-series consists of records maintained by the Canadian National Railways. These records relate to the activities of Colonel G.R. Stevens, a historian of the corporation.

Colonel G.R. Stevens was commissioned by Canadian National Railways in 1953 to research and write a history of the corporation. This has, to date, been published in two volumes, covering the history of Canadian National and its corporate ancestors up to 1922 as Canadian National Railways, Clarke, Irwin and Company Limited, Toronto 1960 (Volume 1) and 1962 (Volume 2).

This material mainly consists of the typescripts of notes and interviews collected by Colonel Stevens and his researchers during the preparation of these volumes. More specifically, the records consist of:
