Canada. Superintending Engineer of the St. Lawrence Canals : In 1936, the Department of Transport absorbed the Department of Railways and Canals, including the administrative responsibility for all matters related to canals. The Superintending Engineer of the St. Lawrence Canals was responsible for the maintenance of the canal and reported to the Director of Canal Services of the Department of Transport.
