Fonds consists of oral history interviews conducted by Kenneth Bambrick with pioneers in the Canadian broadcasting industry. These interviews, conducted across Canada in 1976 and 1977 with men and women who began in the broadcasting industry prior to 1936, were intended to document the early history of Canadian radio broadcasting. The fonds also consists of recordings of a five-part series radio documentary entitled Pioneer Broadcasters, written and produced by Kenneth Bambrick, using material from the oral history interviews.

Bambrick, Kenneth : Kenneth Bambrick graduated from the Journalism department, University of Western Ontario in 1951. He worked as a reporter for the Toronto Telegram and Canadian Underwriter in Toronto until 1954 when he left to join the London Free Press. In 1967, Bambrick became a teacher at the University of Western Ontario Journalism Department. He received his MA (Communications) from Michigan State University in 1970. While helping out with the transition of the Western Journalism Department to a Graduate program -- particularly the broadcast news sequence --, he also spent several summers between 1970 and 1975 as a writer/editor with CBC-TV news in Ottawa and Toronto. He did the research for a series on radio pioneers during a sabbatical in 1977-8. Bambrick retired from Western in 1991.
