Joseph Dumont (from the Canadian North according to the titles) confesses to Father Bartlett (Walthall) that he is guilty of the murder of which the priest's brother is accused. The priest refuses to divulge Dumont's confession and his brother is convicted of murder. The brother escapes and crosses into Canada. Dumont also returns to Canada. A Mountie captures the brother and he is returned to Montana. Dumont in turn is found, confesses, and is brought back. However, he dies before the authorities can hear his confession.
