Fiirst half of a film about the life of a fictitious immigrant farmer worker on an Ontario farm. The 1927 Ontario Motion Picture Bureau catalogue states that "The object of this picture is to encourage young men who are not afraid of work to go on the land in Ontario with the ultimate aim of owning their own land." An English immigrant, William G. Stokes of Putman Downs, Yorkshire, is hired as a farm worker by Canadian farmer, Mr. Conron, on a homestead. A passenger train approaches a small town in Ontario. Mr. Stokes, carrying suitcases, alights from the train and is met by Mr. Conron. They shake hands. Stokes and Conron walk away from the train, Conron carrying the suitcases. They arrive at Meadow Brook in a horse-drawn buggy. Stokes is introduced to Mrs. Conron who is holding a baby. Stokes and Conron smoke cigarettes on the porch. Stokes leaves the farm house for his first day at work. A herd of six cattle, followed by Stokes leading two horses, enter a barn. Stokes grooms the horses and then picks up a pail and heads towards the cows. He returns carrying two buckets of milk. He harnesses a team of three horses and plows a field with the team. A passenger steam train pulling five coaches passes by. Stokes releases the team of horses from the plow and lies on the grass to smoke a cigarette. He resumes his plowing and later returns to the farm leading the three horses. He leaves the barn with two empty buckets. Stokes lies in a hammock reading a newspaper for a break. He is then seen working with a horse drawn disc harrow in a field. Later, walking down a country road, he stops and talks with a neighbouring farmer who is collecting his mail from the mailbox. <4mn 55s>
