The original portrait by Sawyer is with the Department of Energy, Mines and Resources..

Before the work came to the Archives if was restored by CCI..
William Sawyer (1820-1889) was a successful portrait painter, working mainly in Montreal and Kingston. Painted portraits of politicians, including John A Macdonald and many local Kingston citizens. Sir William Edmond Logan (1798-1875) was director of the Geological Survey of Canada from 1842-1869.
