The deployment of three Canadian ships to the Gulf in mid-September is also mentioned. Following his opening statement (in English and French) the Prime Minister responds to questions from the media. Among the issues raised are: the recall of Parliament; the protection of Canadians in Kuwait; the Oka crisis; and the rationale for Canada's unilateral participation in the situation in the Gulf; and the economic sanctions and food embargo imposed on Iraq.
