Trinity House of Montreal : Trinity House, Montreal, was chartered in 1849 (2 Victoria, Chapter 117). The demarcation of responsibilities with Trinity House, Quebec was Portneuf, 38 miles from Quebec City. In 1868 the Corporations continued to exist although the Department approved and audited expenditures. The Department of Marine and Fisheries was responsible for the administration of Trinity Houses and Trinity Boards, Pilots and Pilotage and Decayed Pilots' funds. Gradually, the newly formed Department of Marine and Fisheries assumed all duties in marine matters. The Corporation of the Trinity House of Montreal was dissolved on 1 July 1873 and the responsibility for lights and lightships passed to the Department of Marine; the responsibility for pilotage, buoys and beacons was transferred to the Corporation of the Harbour Commissioners of Montreal (36 Victoria, Chapter 61).
