Trinity House of Quebec : Trinity House, Quebec, was chartered in 1805 (Lower Canada Statutes, 4-5 George III, Chapter 2). The demarcation of responsibilities with Trinity House, Montreal was Portneuf, 38 miles from Quebec City. In 1868 the Corporation continued to exist although the new Department of Marine and Fisheries approved and audited expenditures. The Department was responsible for the administration of Trinity Houses and Trinity Boards, Pilots and Pilotage and Decayed Pilots' funds. Gradually, the newly formed Department of Marine and Fisheries assumed all duties in marine matters. In 1870, Act 33 Victoria, Chapter 18 transferred the management of navigational aids (lighthouses, lightships, buoys, and beacons) from the Trinity House, Quebec, to the Department. On January 1, 1876, Trinity House, Quebec, was dissolved and its sole remaining responsibility for pilotage passed to the Harbour Commissioners of Quebec (38 Victoria, Chapter 55).
