Collection consists of a watercolour drawing, bearing the handwritten inscription, in ink, Daniel Goode on the road to Kingston Decm. 16, 1851. The painting depicts three persons, in a covered sleigh, pulled by two horses through a forest. Also included on the piece are three handwritten signatures - John Jas. Goode - Decm. 16th 1874 A.D., Daniel George Goode - Ottawa, Ont., and John Jos. Goode - Ottawa, Ont.

It is believed that the image represents the first mail run from Ottawa to Kingston, December 16, 1851. Collection also consists of an albumen photograph of Daniel Goode's wife, Maymie (nee Kelly), and a newspaper clipping of the 1934 obituary marking the death of Goode's daughter, Ellen Catherine Goode (1853-1934). Ellen Goode was the grandmother of the donor, Edward Samson.

Samson (family) : At the time of donation (1985), Mr. and Mrs. Edward Samson, were residents of New Jersey, United States. Edward is the great-grandson of Daniel Goode, carrier on the first mail run between Ottawa and Kingston.
