Live coverage of the lighting of the Centennial Flame. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, congratulates Canada on its Centennial. She speaks in both English and French. The 250-voice Centennial Choir, under the direction of Nicholas Goldschmidt, sings God Save the Queen, unaccompanied, in English and French. Judy LaMarsh asks the Centennial Commissioners to read the Centennial Prayer of Dedication. Centennial Commissioners John Fisher and Georges Gauthier read the prayer in English and French. Jean Marchand introduces the new Centennial Anthem. The Centennial Choir sings L'Hymme de Centennial. Judy LaMarsh speaks about the Centennial Flame and asks Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson to light it. He does. The Centennial Choir sings O Canada in English and French. Prime Minister Pearson talks about the triumph of Confederation. He speaks in both English and French. Centennial Commissioner John Fisher speaks about the success of Confederation. This is followed by the sound of the Peace Tower carillon. Don [Frees] of the Department of Public Works speaks about the design and development of the Centennial Flame. This is followed by Auld Lang Syne. <30mn>
