Canadian National Steamship Company : Canadian National Steamship Company, Limited was originally the Grand Trunk Pacific Coast Steamship Company, Limited, which operated various shipping services on the Canadian Pacific Coast. Under Dominion Letters Patent on 26 February 1925, the name was changed to Canadian National Steamship Company, Limited. It acquired four ships from its predecessor, the Prince Albert (operated 1910-1923), Prince George (1910-1945), Prince John (1910-1940) and Prince Rupert (1910-1956). It maintained and attempted to extend its services before the Second World War, acquiring the ships Prince Charles (1925-1940), Prince William (1925-1938), Prince David (1930-1939), Prince Henry (1930-1938) and Prince Robert (1930-1939). Each of these ships was registered in the name of an individual company named after the vessel. These companies were created by changing the name of certain [?] in the Canadian Government Merchant Marine, Limited whose charters had lapsed because of disposal of the ships. Following the Second World War, one new ship was built for the company, the Prince George which commenced operations on the Vancouver/ Prince Rupert/Skagway, Alaska route in 1948.
