Small, Lester E., 1911- : Lester E. Small was born in 1911 and began collecting stamps in the early 1920s. He was an employee of Canada Post for 30 years, stationed at Victoria, British Columbia.

Mr. Small is known for his contribution to youth philately. For 35 years, he and his family ran a junior stamp club in Victoria for children 6 to 14. Some of the members of this club went on to achieve high recognition in International shows, due in part, to Mr. Small's tutelage. In 1971, he received a citation from the United Nations postal division for his work in this area.

Les Small's collecting interests centre around British Columbia postal history, which he pursued for close to 30 years. He has exhibited and won trophies and other medals. In 1975, he was named the Distinguished Philatelist of the North West Federation.

He has been chairman of local and district stamp shows and judged events. In 1966, he was chairman of Vicpex '66 in Victoria. He has been president and held other offices in local stamp clubs for many years.

In addition to his many articles on postal history, Mr. Small was known for his public speaking in promotion of philately. Personal correspondence in accession file.
