Montreal and Troy Telegraph Company : The Montreal and Troy Telegraph Company commenced operations in February 1848. It was the proprietor of a telegraph line from Montreal across the St. Lawrence River to Laprairie. It appears that it was intended to extend this line to the south, but there is no evidence that this was done. Some time after 1855 the company was absorbed by the Montreal Telegraph Company.
