Collection consists of 1 printed sheet of 200 subjects for the Half-cent Queen Victoria Canada postage stamps (Small Queen issue), 1 sheet of 1899 Queen Victoria-Numeral issue postage stamps, over-printed 2 cents on 3 cents (Plate No. 6), 1 manuscript layout study sheet for plates 5 and 6 of the Queen Victoria-Numeral issue, 9 die proofs and colour trials for the 1865 British Columbia 3 pence, the 1869 surcharged postage stamp issue and the 1865 Vancouver Island 5 and 10 cent issues, 1 pen and ink drawing for the 1865 British Columbia 3 pence issue, and 1 portrait of H.R.H Prince Albert, engraved under the superintendence of Mr. Charles Heath by W.H. Egleton from a drawing by W. Drummond, Esq.

Wellburn, Gerald E : Gerarld E. Wellburn was born in England. In 1911, Wellburn and his family emigrated to Canada, settling in Victoria. He was married in 1921, to Ethelmay Heathcote.

Wellburn's made his living through a logging and lumber business, Wellburn Timbers Ltd., which was eventually subsumed by H.R. McMillan, an export company. Wellburn remained in the employ of McMillan for 25 years.

Wellburn's philatelic interests tended toward the postal history of Vancouver Island and British Columbia. His collections have included postal covers and stamps of the 1860s and 1870s, and have won several awards including the Grand Award at Capex '51 in Toronto and the Prix d'Honneur at Internabra'74 (Basle,1974) and Capex '87, also in Toronto. A book titled, The stamps & postal history of Vancouver Island and British Columbia, based on Wellburn's collection, was published in 1988. In 1939 he was made Fellow of the Royal Philatelic Society, London, and in 1950 he became signatory of the roll of distinguished philatelists. In 1968 he was made Fellow of the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada and in 1969 he was elected to The Order of the Beaver (BNAPS). Can. Phil. Vol. 40, No. 6, Nov/Dec 1989
