Mount Royal Tunnel and Terminal Company : The Canadian Northern Montreal Tunnel and Terminal Company, Limited was incorporated to construct a railway tunnel and terminal facilities in Montreal for use by the Canadian Northern system. The normal approaches to downtown Montreal were occupied by rivals of the Canadian Northern and it was necessary to construct a tunnel through Mount Royal. The company's name was changed, on 10 January 1914 to Mount Royal Tunnel and Terminal Company, Limited. A double track, electrically operated tunnel through Mount Royal from Central Station to Cartierville with 5.62 miles of line was completed in 1917 and opened to traffic on 4 October 1918. Ownership of the company was transferred to the Canadian Northern Railway Company on 14 July 1914. The Mount Royal Tunnel and Terminal Company Limited is still in corporate existence as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Canadian National Railway Company. RG30 General Inventory
