Amherst and Belchertown Railroad Company : The Amherst and Belchertown Railroad Company was incorporated on 24 May 1851 under a special act of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. A 19.5 mile line of railway was constructed between Amherst and Palmer, Massachusetts, and opened for traffic on 9 May 1853. In 1858 the Amherst and Belchertown Railroad Company was acquired by its bondholders who incorporated the Amherst, Belchertown and Palmer Railroad Company to operate it. This latter company was acquired by the New London Northern Railroad Company on 1 March 1864. RG30 General Inventory
