New London, Willimantic and Palmer Railroad Company : The New London, Willimantic and Palmer Railroad Company was incorporated under the laws of the state of Massachusetts on 10 April 1848. On 17 January 1849 the New London, Willimantic and Springfield Railroad Company merged with it. A total of 64.84 miles of line between New London, Connecticut and Palmer, Massachusetts were constructed in 1849 and 1850. Following financial difficulties, the company's bondholders were authorized under special acts of both Connecticut and Massachusetts to reorganize under the name New London Northern Railroad Company in 1859.
