Chicago and State Line Railway Company : The Chicago and State Line Railway Company, a Grand Trunk controlled company was incorporated under the laws of the state of Indiana on 20 June 1878. On 1 August 1878 it acquired the property of the Chicago Southern Railroad Company which had been incorporated in 1874 to build from Elsdon near Chicago to the Illinois/Indiana state line. On 4 September 1879 it amalgamated with the Chicago and State Line Extension Railway Company to form the North Western Grand Trunk Railway Company (Illinois and Indiana).
