Fonds consists of the executive records of Rolph, Clark, Stone Ltd. and its predecessor company, Rolph and Clark Ltd. These records document the formation and early activities of one of Canada's largest lithographic printers. Records pertaining to Rolph and Clark Limited include the corporate minute book, as well as the company's incorporation and stock transfer book. This book also served as the company minute book until 1907. Other records include a copy of the 1917 amalgamation agreement between Rolph and Clark Ltd. and Stone Ltd. which formed the basis of the new firm, Rolph, Clark, Stone Ltd. Finally, the fonds contains the incorporation and stock transfer book for Rolph, Clark, Stone Ltd. Like its predecessor, the Rolph, Clark, Stone Ltd. incorporation book contains the company charter, by-laws and stock transfer register.

Rolph Clark Stone Limited : Rolph, Clark, Stone Ltd. was established in Toronto, Ontario in 1917. The history of the company dates back to 1867 when Joseph Thomas Rolph acquired the printing business of Ellis & Company in Toronto. Six years later, Rolph brought in two partners and renamed the firm Rolph, Smith and Co. The new company produced bank forms and other commercial stationery. In 1904, when their plant was destroyed by fire, Rolph, Smith and Co. merged with the Clark Lithographing Company, manufacturers of lithographed labels. The new firm, Rolph and Clark Ltd. continued to prosper, and in 1917 merged with Stone Ltd., manufacturers of calendars and posters, and one of the first companies in the world to adopt the use of photo-lithography technology. Rolph, Clark Stone Ltd. became one of Canada's largest lithographic printers until the obsolescence of commercial lithography in the 1970s.
