Georgian Bay and Wellington Railway Company (1879-1881) : The Georgian Bay and Wellington Railway Company was incorporated in Ontario (41 Vic., Cap. 47) on 7 March 1878 under the name Wellington and Georgian Bay Railway Company to build a line from Guelph, Listowel or Harriston to Owen Sound. The company name was amended by statute (Ontario Statutes, 42 Vic., Cap. 69) on 11 March 1879 to Georgian Bay and Wellington Railway Company. A 26.75 mile railway line between Palmerston and Durham was opened to traffic in 1882. Under the provisions of another Ontario Statute (41 Vic., Cap. 69) on 4 March 1881 the company amalgamated with the Stratford and Huron Railway Company and the Port Dover and Lake Huron Railway Company to form the Grand Trunk, Georgian Bay and Lake Erie Railway Company.
