The fonds consists of records created by the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada in the course of its regular affairs. The bulk of the collection is correspondence to and from the officers and staff of The Royal, the Directors, and includes documents relating to long-range planning for the organization.

The fonds also included a plaque commemorating the RPSC's participation in a philatelic book exhibition, and photographs and slides relating to conventions and events held by The Royal over the years.

The fonds is divided in 20 series.

Royal Philatelic Society of Canada : Founded in 1888 under the name Canadian Philatelic Association. The organization continued intermittently until the First World War. It was revived in 1919 by the Winnipeg Philatelic Society which took on a national role and subsequently adopted the name Canadian Philatelic Association. In 1923, the name was changed to the Canadian Philatelic Society. In 1959, with royal assent, the name was changed to the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada (RPSC).

The society's mandate is to promote philately in Canada. It represents Canadian philatelists at the national level at the Fédération internationale de philatélie, the Federación Interamericana de Filatelia, and the World Philatelic Congress. It holds regular conventions, and publishes a journal, The Canadian philatelist = Le philatéliste canadien.

The RPSC is composed of individual members and official chapters. These official chapters are mainly local stamp clubs which maintain an affiliation with the national organization. Membership directory 1971 / Royal Philatelic Society of Canada. Ottawa : Royal Philatelic Society of Canada, 1971.
