Marble oval bas-relief sculpture showing the city of Montreal, 1767.. Work by William Tyler after a drawing by Captain John Montresor (1736-1799)..
The bas-relief was mounted over the door of "Montreal", the country house owned by Lord Amherst at Riverhead, Kent, England; this piece was probably acquired by the Public Archives of Canada while Sir Arthur Doughty was Dominion Archivist..
Work is inscribed, verso, on wooden frame: "July 25th 1938 / H. Wooding / J. Wood / Chief Major / Lanctôt"..
Negative C-142415 is recto view before conservation; c-142416 is verso..
