Series consists of thirty-three letters from the Rt. Hon. Sir Louis Davies (1845-1924), Judge of the Supreme Court of Canada and later Chief Justice, and from his wife, to their daughter, Ethel Hyndman, 1909-1924. The series also includes a photocopy of an unpublished autobiography by Ethel Hyndman, 1962.

The letters from Sir Louis Davies reveal his attitudes on defence and building a Canadian navy in 1909. They mention the Alberta Court of Appeal decision on calling out men aged 19 to 23 for World War I service and refer to the Influenza epidemic of 1918. In one letter, he provides his opinion on how military criminals from the war should be punished. Descriptions of his private, social, and professional life abound, both in Ottawa and in Prince Edward Island. Included are discussions of a visit to Government House, the opening of Parliament, a visit to France which included viewing the King and Queen pass in the street, and country life at his summer home in Riverside, Prince Edward Island. A photocopy of an autobiography by his daughter Ethel both embellishes the letters' content and allows the reader to imagine the background against which Louis Davies wrote.
