Newsreel coverage of the visit of Indian Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri to Canada and England. On his first visit to the western hemisphere, Shastri arrives at Upland Airport in Ottawa where he is greeted by the Canadian Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson, a Royal Canadian Airforce Guard of Honour, and the heads of diplomatic missions in Ottawa. On Parliament Hill, Shastri is shown entering the House of Parliament, posing with Pearson during talks, and opening a new lounge in the House. Highlights of Shastri's itinerary are detailed including clips of the Indian Prime Minister: laying a wreath at the National War Memorial, meting with Pearson at 24 Sussex Drive, attending various receptions held in his honour, on a sightseeing tour of Niagara Falls, receiving an honourary degree at McGill University in Montreal, and exchanging gifts with Montreal mayor Jean Drapeau at a city hall reception. In England, Shastri travels by train to Brighton where he receives an honourary degree from the University of Sussex. In London, Shastri is shown with British Prime Minister Harold Wilson at a conference of Commonwealth leaders, speaking at a luncheon, and at a Nehru Memorial Exhibition. <19mn 30s>
