Cochrane (1860-1946), who attended Royal Military College, Kingston, Ontario, as a student from 1876-1880, and then was taken on as an instructor and professor at RMC from 1882 to 1914. In 1914, he joined the Department of Militia in Ottawa as part of the surveys division, and from 1914 to 1929 was on the general staff of the Department of Militia and Defence. The photographs are mostly taken by John B. Cochrane, and document personnel and activities at Royal Military College and views of Kingston, ca. 1900-193; and Ottawa, Ontario and Chelsea, Quebec from 1914 to 1925; as well as views of the Merrick family outdoors, 1895.
