This sub-series begins with several files on the Canadian General Standards Board; the remainder of the files deals with procurement projects of DSS, ranged by province in alphabetical order. The files consist of correspondence, reports, transmittal and routing slips, memos, submissions, mail-ins, clippings, contract negotiations and contracts.

These files document the unsung nuts-and-bolts business of government. In the expenditure of public funds in government business, DSS sought to satisfy regional demands for economic stimulation, to develop Canadian industry and to serve the political interests of the ruling party, which is what these files demonstrate. One sees in this sub-series interventions by ministers from their own jurisdictions on behalf of their regions/constituents. The files detail problem areas of contract disputes and complaints about unjust treatment, and address the issue of propriety in contract awards. These files also demonstrate the links between significant corporations/business leaders and government, as well as another facet of the inter-relationship between federal and provincial/local governments.
