This sub-series consists of correspondence, memos, contracts information, transfer/routing slips, reports and briefing materials. The first several files deal with several government programs, "The Prosperity Initiative" and "Securing the Future", visions of a changing Canada and how these visions impact on DSS. The programs, connected with the Cabinet Committee on Economic and Trade Policy, formulated programs for Canada's adaptation to a changing, globalizing world.

The bulk of this sub-series deals with federal government procurement policy, and the conferences of federal, provincial and territorial ministers responsible for procurement, held at Kananastis, Quebec City and St. Andrews (NB). The conferences highlight attempts by the ministers to harmonize their policies, to seek out operational efficiencies, to assure equal opportunity for provinces and territories to supply federal government needs, and to assess the impact of governmental operations in other areas of life (eg. the environment).

These records shed light on several significant areas - federal-provincial relations, regional needs and regional economic development, search for governmental efficiencies and streamlining and Canada's role in a globalizing world.
