The series consists of correspondence, notes and manuscripts relating to the writing and research for Harold Pfeiffer's autobiography, "The Man Who Makes Heads With His Hands" published by the General Store Publishing House (Burnstown) 1997. The correspondence documents Pfeiffer's efforts to interest a publisher in his project and attempts to raise funding, as well as the process of writing the book with his co-author, John Stevens. Included are notes on prospective sitters for Pfeiffer's series of portraits of prominent members of the Blood, Blackfoot, Stoney and other tribes, prepared by G.H. Gooderham of the Riveredge Foundation 1972. There are manuscripts of autobiographical pieces gathered together for the book and Pfeiffer's own notes on his Inuit and Indian sitters. Included is an account of the trial of Stephen Angulalik of Perry River and a transcript of an interview with trapper Gus Daoust of Fort Reliance.
